Petrol in a diesel car in Clonakilty, Ireland
Call 01295 380724 before touching the ignition. We cover Clonakilty through partner drainers rather than our own vans, and we will connect you to one nearby. Diesel lubricates the high-pressure pump as it passes through; petrol does the opposite and washes that film away, so the pump starts wearing within minutes of running. They quote and confirm before travelling.
How Ireland works
Wrong Fuel Drain operates its own mobile technicians across the UK. In Ireland we do not run our own vans — we work with local fuel drainers and connect you to one covering Clonakilty. Call 01295 380724 and we will pass you straight to a drainer in your area with the details of the vehicle and the fuels involved, so you are not repeating the story twice. Pricing and attendance times are set by the local operator, not by us, so ask them to confirm both before they travel.

The drain itself, step by step in Clonakilty
Most of the time is spent draining. A full tank of the wrong fuel takes longer to pump than a few litres, so the drainer will tell you roughly how long it will be once they see the gauge. After that it is a flush, a refuel and a test run before they leave.
Questions worth asking before you book a drain in Clonakilty
A drainer should be happy to answer all of these on the phone. If they will not give a price before travelling, ring someone else.
- What is the total, not just the call-out, if it is a straight drain?
- Do you bring clean fuel, and is it included?
- How long until you reach me in Clonakilty?
- Is there an extra charge at night or at the weekend?
- Will you dispose of the contaminated fuel, and can I have a note of it?
What to do right now
- Keep the engine off and put the keys somewhere you will not absent-mindedly use them.
- Move the car only by pushing, with help, and only if it is blocking a pump.
- Phone 01295 380724 and describe what happened.
- Confirm the quote — call-out from £89 — and the arrival window.
- The drainer empties the tank into a sealed container and flushes through.
- After a refuel and a test run, the waste fuel leaves with the drainer for licensed disposal.

Answers
Fuel Fixer, the company behind Wrong Fuel Drain, holds a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 2,190 reviews on Trustpilot, on a profile claimed since 2017.
Across recent reviews, the themes customers raise most often are staff who stay polite, professional and reassuring during what is a stressful situation, and how quickly a technician arrives and gets the vehicle back on the road in Clonakilty.
The most common criticism is price. Some customers have felt the cost of an emergency drain was steep for a job that takes under two hours, and that is fair comment on an emergency call-out. It is why the misfuel call-out fee is set by the local drainer in Ireland and why the full figure is quoted on the phone before a technician sets off — so nothing about the cost is a surprise at the roadside.
Common questions
Do you work at night in Clonakilty?
Yes. Drainers work 24 hours a day, including weekends and bank holidays.
What happens to the fuel you take out?
It goes into a sealed tank on the drainer's van and is taken for licensed disposal and recycling. It is never tipped away.
Can you drain a hire car or a company car?
Yes. Tell the hire company or fleet manager too; many prefer a drain on site to a recovery.
How quickly can a drainer reach me in Clonakilty?
Usually the same day and often within a couple of hours. The operator gives you an arrival window on 01295 380724 before you agree.
Do you cover all of Clonakilty?
Yes — forecourts, roadsides, homes and workplaces across Clonakilty and the surrounding area.
Does insurance cover petrol in a diesel car?
Many policies exclude misfuelling. Some breakdown cover and optional add-ons include it. Check your policy wording before assuming either way.
